Dorothy Weeks (nee Roberts)

December 17, 1929 – February 4, 2010

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our loving mother Dorothy Weeks at Lakeland Longterm Care in Parry Sound, Ontario on Thursday February 4, 2010 in her 80th year. Dorothy's life was a miracle from the beginning when she conquered insurmountable odds. She weighed a mere 2.2 lbs when she arrived 2 months premature in 1929. In 1948, she married the love of her life – Larry Weeks, a Locomotive Engineer on the Canadian Pacific railroad. The birth of her two children, Jo-Ann and Carolyn, brought her great joy and happiness. She was very proud and loved them dearly. Despite many health challenges and ups and downs during her life – Dorothy lived life to the fullest. She truly loved people and thrived in the community of MacTier where she lived for over 50 years. Dorothy enjoyed many events – church bazaars, bake sales, dances, piano recitals, music afternoons at the Legion, weekly bingos and time at the cottage. She loved spending time visiting with friends and family. Dorothy was a long time member of the legion and the Catholic Women's league. She enjoyed going out of her way to connect with people and made everyone feel special each and every day. Dorothy lost her husband in 1985. The passenger train always brought back special memories. She spent many years living with her sister Margaret until Margaret's death in 1998. Mom continued to be active in the community and enjoyed spending time with her dear friend and companion Reg Roberts. During her time at Lakeland she continued to enjoy the many activities that the home had to offer but most of all she loved the many people and wonderful staff. Dorothy was the last remaining member of her family. She is preceeded in death by her parents Mark and Vitaline Roberts and her siblings – Jerry, Gordon, Eddie and Margaret. She was the beloved wife of the late Larry Weeks and loving mother of Jo-Ann Davey and her husband Dean, and Carolyn Kauppinen and her husband Jerry. We would like to express a special thank you to all the staff at Lakeland for the exceptional care. She truly loved all of you and thought of you as her second family. Everyone brightened Mom's day. Our sorrow is deep however we ask you to join us in a celebration of Dorothy's wonderful life at Torrance Funeral Home and Chapel (89 Bowes St. Parry Sound) on Monday February 8, 2010 at 1PM with visitation one hour before. Spring Interment MacTier Union Cemetery. If desired, donations to Lakeland Long Term Care would be appreciated by the family.
